Why Do We Celebrate Baisakhi?

Baisakhi is one of the most celebrated festivals of  North India. It is celebrated especially in the Punjab region. In Punjab and Haryana, this month is known for the harvesting of rabi crops (wheat, gram, mustard, barley, etc ). So that is why it is also known as the harvest festival. This festival is also very near to Punjabi peoples' hearts because, in 1699, the Khalsa Panth foundation is laid by 10th Guru of Sikhs-Shri Guru Gobind Singh.

For Punjabis, there is one more reason that they celebrate this festival the most, that is, In 1699, 10th guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh laid the foundation of Khalsa Panth (Sikhism) in Anandpur. Where he had given the 5 identification objects to his every Sikh to wear all the times, that is known as 5 Kakars (kanga, kchahra, kda, Kesh, Kirpan). And named its first 5 members as - Panj Pyare.
